The 38th annual Ha- wai‘i Pacific Health Great Aloha Run returns this February. Par- ticipants will be able to run the 8.15-mile foot race at any location they choose to from Feb. 18 and 21.
Traditionally, the race route took participants from Aloha Tower in downtown Honolulu to Aloha Stadi- um in Hālawa. For those on O‘ahu, this year will be extra special as finishers will be treated to a drive-th- ru celebration as we bid “a hui hou” to Aloha Stadium. It’s going to be a party with bands, cheerleaders and lots of happy chaos.
solely raises money for Ha- wai‘i charities. The proceeds from this iconic community event financially assists scholarship programs and special projects of more than 150 selected charitable orga- nizations serving the com- munity needs in the state.
We have longtime sup- porters, such as Carolyn Kargol and Missy Lange, who do the race to support local charities and feel the true spirit of aloha. They’ve been participants of the run for all 37 years.
Great Aloha Run Goes Virtual
By Carole Kai Onouye, president and co-founder of Carole Kai Charities
Last year, for the first virtual iteration of the race, runners from around the world participated generat- ing $238,000 for local Ha- wai‘i communities. Over the course of its nearly 40-year history, the Great Aloha Run has raised more than $15 million awarded to nonprof- it health and human service organizations and communi- ty groups.
As COVID-19 continues, our charities such as the Boys & Girls Clubs, Special Olym- pics and the United Cerebral Palsy Association of Hawai‘i have never stopped providing support. It is our time to give back to them. Will you sign up to participate this year in the Ke Kukini Me Ke Aloha Pau‘ole – the race with com- passionate love?
