This Sucks
For most of last year, I suffered from right shoulder pain. It radiated from the right side of my neck down to behind my right clavicle. Nothing I did could alleviate the pain and discomfort. Not sure what caused it, and I tried to think of what may have been the culprit.
I redid the ergonomics of my computer setup at work. I switched carrying my work backpack from my right shoulder to my left. Then, it dawned on me: I was always sitting in a bad position when watching television and scrolling on my phone with my left hand. When you consider how much TV I watched over the course of last year, it’s a wonder I can even stand upright!
I tried “rolling” my shoulder and neck, took copious amounts of ibuprofen, sodium naproxen and acetaminophen. I sought out various modes of massage and even bought one of those expensive hand-held percussion devices.
Nothing seemed to work, so I finally decided to see my primary care doctor. I was talking to my little brother about it when he asked if I tried a chiropractor. I figured I had nothing to lose and asked if he knew one.
Through a reference from one of his friends, I was able to secure an appointment with a chiropractic doctor with a small practice close to where I live. I immediately liked him, as he runs his office completely by himself, kept company by his cute little dog. And, he instilled a lot of confidence as he explained what he was doing and in locating the source of the problem.
He said the problem was caused by my ribs! As I looked for an exit, he explained and proceeded to “crack” my body like you might see on YouTube videos. Believe it or not, I was instantly cured. It felt like a miracle!
He also added treatment with those glass suction cups. For the most part, I felt like a new man. Now I see him about once a month for tune-up treatments. Recently, I saw him for neck pain and he applied a cup to the right side of my neck below my ear. While he did warn me, it left a red suction circle on my neck.
When I got home that evening my daughter was on the phone with her brother in Minnesota. She looked at my neck and yelled, “Dad what the heck happened to your neck?”
In a jovial mood, I replied, “Oh nothing. Mom just gave me a hickey!” I suddenly heard both daughter and son exclaim, “Ugh, I just almost vomited!” I started laughing and then went into the kitchen to tell my wife about the kids.
She laughed but then said, “No really, Ron, how did you get that?”
