MAY 12, 2021 HAWAI‘I ISLAND MIDWEEK 5
The Las Vegas Hawaiian Civic Club hosted its inaugural Swing for the Fu- ture Prince Jonah Kūhiō Kalaniana‘ole Scholarship Golf Tournament at Desert Pines Golf Club to raise funds for its scholarship pro- gram. The support from local Ninth Islanders, as well as residents from California and Arizona, truly showed what the aloha spirit is all about. With 34 hole sponsors, 110 golfers and an out- pouring of donations from community organiza- tions, the event was definitely a success! A total of four scholarships will be awarded annually.

In addition to fundraising, the event also brought the community together to support small businesses impacted by the pandemic. The mini pop-up mākeke provided a free space for vendors to promote their businesses and sell their merchandise. The civic club also had a booth to welcome current members and pro- vide information on the organization to potential members.
Guests at the event were entertained by the live music of Kaleo Phillips, Damon Williams, Wailau Ryder, Justin Phillips, Piʻilani Arias, Napua Grieg, Kāmaka Kūkona, Del Beasley and Lehua Kalima. The musicians donated their time and talent in support of the event.
