High School Senior Wins Hero Award
Honsador Lumber announced the winners of its first Fall High School Hero Award, and the group included Torrance Satta- Ellis, a senior at Konawaena High School. Nominations were submitted by students, family, community and faculty members. Winners were chosen based on their academic standing, their willingness to go above and beyond in demonstrating school spirit, and their service in the community as positive role models. Winners received a $250 donation by Honsador Lumber in the students’ names to the academic department or nonprofit organization of their choosing, as well

      Providing Kids With A Bright Future
Kaiser Permanente announced three community health grants totaling $150,000 to organizations that prepare youth to achieve success in high school and beyond. Adult Friends for Youth and the Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i and Maui will each receive $50,000. Boys & Girls Club of Hawai‘i (pictured) will use the grant for its What’s Next Initiative, a cohort-based case management development program that serves teens. Its participants will receive mentoring through high school that addresses a variety of needs, including mental and physical health, post-secondary education, workforce development, career exploration and cultural learning.
